King
Salmon May 25 to July 13
The Mat-Su Valley is home to some of the world's
largest salmon with the world record weighing in at
97.4 lbs. Perhaps you will be the one to break the
100 lb. record. The King Salmon Derby provides a
chance to win over $30,000 in cash and prizes. In
2003, One Last Cast landed 14 King Salmon weighing
over 50 pounds each.
The Susitna River sonar fish count shows that
between 50,000 to 80,000 Kings pass through the
river system from May through July. Late May and
early June is a great time to beat the crowds and
take advantage of warm weather and bright ocean
fresh fish. The King bag limit for most of our
region is 1 per day and 2 in possession, but on some
rivers the limit is 2 per day and 4 in possession.
(Trip time is approximately 10 hours.)

Silver Salmon July 25 to
September 5
Silver Salmon is considered the "residents’ choice"
and is known for its fighting spirit. A Silver
averages from 10-15 lbs. Their run usually starts
the first of August and continues through late
September. There is an annual Silver Salmon Derby in
mid-August, which runs for 10 days. The winner can
pocket as much as $10,000. In 2003 the derby record
was over 20 pounds! (Trip time is approximately 10
hours.)

Red
Salmon July 10 to July 25
Also known as Sockeye, these salmon are considered
by many to be the best eating, and are great when
smoked. Sockeyes average 12 lbs. We fish for Sockeye
from mid-July to early August. In 2003 over 200,000
Sockeye entered the river system within a two week
period. The daily bag limit for Sockeye Salmon
ranges from 3 to 6 fish daily. (See Silver Salmon
Price List)
Giant Rainbow Trout June 15 to July 25 /
August 22 to October 15
South Central Alaska is one of three locations in
North America where you can still find abundant
stocks of giant, wild Rainbow Trout. The streams we
fish flow from headwaters that begin in Denali
National Park near Mt. Denali (McKinley). Fast,
clear, cold water, combined with perfect gravel
stream bottoms and nice deep pools, teem with
healthy Rainbows. Expect to catch fish averaging 17
to 20 inches weighing 2-4 pounds. It’s common to see
Rainbows 22 to 26 inches weighing 5 to 6 pounds. Our
2003 record was caught in September, weighed 16
pounds and was just over 32 inches long. What a
fish!! We offer a limited number of trips for
Rainbow Trout each season in order to preserve their
wild habitat. Many of the rivers we fish rarely have
any human contact, except for us of course. We
encourage catch and release and trophy photos. (Trip
time is approximately 12 hours.)
